E-Learning and Enhancing Soft Skills: Contemporary Models of Education in the Era of Artificial Intelligence

The Springer book E-Learning and Enhancing Soft Skills: Contemporary Models of Education in the Era of Artificial Intelligence (2025) collects research papers from the international conference “Theoretical and Practical Aspects of Distance Education” (hybrid, 14-15 October 2024) and disseminates the results of the FITPED consortium projects. It focuses on how artificial intelligence is changing education and teaching – especially in the context of e-learning – while paying attention to key competences and soft skills.
The book’s chapters address AI-related topics that are relevant in practice: teaching programming with AI, AI in the professional practice of teachers, and data-driven approaches such as microlearning analytics (e.g. identifying patterns in quick guessing).
It also touches on areas that are strongly related to AI-ready education today, including information hygiene/media literacy, cybersecurity education, automated assessment and test generation, and virtual labs supporting hands-on learning in digital environments. Generative AI and LLM appear as one important branch (e.g., AI pedagogical agents), but the overall scope is broader: it understands AI as a toolkit for modern instructional design, learning support, and evidence-based education.
