DLCC 2025: E-learning, Generative AI, Gamification and AR/VR in Educational Practice

The international scientific conference DLCC 2025 (Theoretical and Practical Aspects of Distance Learning) took place on 15–16 October 2025 in Cieszyn, Poland. The 2025 edition carried the theme “E-learning & Interactive Learning. Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI), Gamification and Immersive Technologies (AR/VR) in Educational Practice and Research.” The conference was organized in a hybrid format (on-site and online via Zoom), enabling participation from a wide international community.

DLCC traditionally connects researchers and practitioners working in distance and online education, including university educators, students, and experts from practice. In 2025, the focus strongly reflected current priorities in education: how to use generative AI responsibly and effectively, how to increase engagement through gamification, and how to create deeper learning experiences with immersive technologies (AR/VR).

A highlight of the program was the keynote by Prof. Dr. Piet Kommers, titled “Generative AI and Augmented Reality for Deep Learning,” which opened discussion on how combining GenAI with AR can support deeper understanding and more meaningful learning activities. The conference also included hands-on workshops, such as working with the Kebbi Air interactive robot (linking AI and IoT with early and primary education) and demonstrations of VR learning modules for geometry.

DLCC 2025 also created a direct bridge to the FITPED-GAI project. The program featured a dedicated workshop, “FITPED-GAI: Empowering Future Educators with Generative AI,” focused on strengthening the competencies of future teachers for using generative AI in education. For active participants, the conference was additionally connected to publication opportunities, including pathways to publish in IJREL and related conference outputs.
