The Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) is the oldest technical university in Central Europe and the oldest civilian technical university in the world. According to the prestigious QS World University Ranking, CTU is among the 10 best universities in Central and Eastern Europe and the long-standing best technical university in the Czech Republic. According to Methodology 2017+, it is the highest-rated in the group of Czech technical universities. Currently, CTU employs around 5,000 staff and has eight faculties with 18,000 students studying at the university. CTU meets requirements for the use of the ‘Human Resources Excellence in Research’ award from European Commission. The award promotes the stimulating and favourable work environment for researchers in our institution. The Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) at CTU reflects commitment to continuously improve human resource policies in line with the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, notably commitment to achieve fair and transparent recruitment and appraisal procedures.

Masaryk Institute of Advanced Studies (MIAS) is part of CTU. MIAS was established as an academic unit of the Czech Technical University in Prague in 1992, bearing the name of the founder and first President of independent Czechoslovakia, T. G. Masaryk (1850-1937). It revives the tradition of the CTU School of Commerce, originally established in 1919, and in its time the largest of the CTU Faculties. Alongside the eight Engineering Faculties of CTU and in close cooperation with them,

MIAS has focused primarily on interdisciplinary and complementary disciplines, including economics, management studies, language studies, regional development, engineering pedagogy and history. Since inception, the core activities of MIAS have included teaching in publicly accredited university programs, granting its graduates corresponding undergraduate and graduate degrees. From 1994 through 2014, a total of 678 students, also graduated from a highly successful joint MBA program with Sheffield Hallam University. In the early nineties, MIAS acquired JASPEX, an experienced and prestigious provider of language education, which has contributed to MIAS becoming a leading and certified institution in the area of general and specialized language training for academics, professionals and the general public.

Internationalization is a strategic priority of MIAS and various means serve to achieve this objective, including rigorous foreign language training traversing the whole undergraduate curriculum, compulsory enrollment in courses taught in English for students in the Czech graduate program, strong encouragement of international mobility by both students and faculty, as well as the development of full-time programs in English, targeting a broad international pool of students with ambition to succeed in a global economy.

MIAS consists of 80 academic staff supported by visiting lecturers, supervisors and professional consultants; and more than 950 students in accredited undergraduate and graduate programs with hundreds of participants attending professional, qualification and language courses and seminars. MIAS participates in numerous international research projects, and provides advisory services and training programs for companies, professional bodies, public agencies, as well as for other components of the CTU.

Key persons:

  • David Vaněček, PhD, is an Associate Professor of teaching methodologies at MIAS in CTU. He is specialized in technical teacher training, e-learning, teaching methodologies, virtual and augmented reality. He is currently the deputy director of MIAS and head of the Institute of Pedagogical and Psychological Studies at MIAS at the CTU. He has been involved in many international, EU and national projects.
  • Dana Dobrovská, doc. PhDr., CSc. is an Associate Professor of Psychology at MIAS in CTU. Her work focuses on technical teacher training, teaching psychology and internet and social networks environments. She is involved in many EU and National projects where she mainly contributed to develop soft, technical, managerial and digital skills for various sthakeholders.
  • Yilmaz İlker Yorulmaz, PhD, is a postdoctoral fellow at MIAS in CTU. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Marmara University in foreign language teaching with a specific focus in teaching English. He received his master’s and doctorate degrees from MSKU in the Department of Educational Administration, Supervision, Planning and Economics. His main research is on adult education and learning and organizational behaviour. He has been involved in many EU and national projects on modernisation of education, digitalisation, and upskilling digital, technical and managerial competences. Dr. Yorulmaz works for developing know-how information regarding digital transformation management of organisations and contributes planning and implementation of digitalisation process.
  • Eva Bobková is an experienced project manager at MIAS at the CTU. Previously, she worked at the Prague University of Economics and Business. Since 2021 she has been working as a full-time research manager at the Department of Research and Development at MIAS. In the last five years, she has been involved in several national (funded by the Czech Science Foundation, Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, etc.).
  • Inam Ur Rehman, PhD, is a postdoctoral fellow at MIAS at the CTU. He holds a PhD in the area of Computer Science. He is working on methodologies specifically towards virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), where he is deeply passionate about exploring advanced technologies in education and integrating ICT tools, particularly VR and AR.
